Creating a dining area that feels much larger than it actually is can be difficult in a tiny house. I’ve looked at a lot of built in designs but I’m not sure I want to go that route because of the issues with someone in the back of the table needing to use the bathroom or get a drink and the person sitting at the entrance having to cater to everyone else. Having 4 kids makes this a bigger issue, as well as cleaning cushions and under the table.

This table, called the Levi, from Item in the UK, has a timber top that really brings nature into the room, and a clear acrylic base that makes the table appear to be floating. Your eyes are drawn under the table which really opens the room.

You may have heard about my weakness for bottled water, what can I say, I’m a slave to the gods of repackaged tap water. I’m trying to break the habit because it’s so expensive and bad for the environment, so the Aqua Maker is an interesting concept. I’m not sure how “compact” the machine is, but the basic premise is that the Aqua Maker creates filtered water by pulling the humidity from the air and condensing it into drinkable water.

According to the makers, the air filter removes air born particles like dust, allergens, bacteria and VOC’s and can work even in a desert setting. You simply plug the machine in and it can create up to 36 liters of water in 48 hours. It would be interesting to see a cost breakdown to compare the cost of electricity to the cost of bottled water and tap water. You can read more at their website.

Remember living with just a hot plate during college? Well get ready to move on up in your tiny house with this mini kitchen designed by Russell Hobbs.

The Russell Hobbs 13824 Mini Kitchen is a multi-function electric compact cooker, with hotplates for grilling, roasting, baking, frying and boiling. The fan-assisted oven has a good size 26L capacity, and is thermostatically controlled. There are 2 hotplates on top – one large (1kW), one medium (0.7kW) – which you can use at the same time as the oven. The interior of the 13824 is self cleaning, and there’s a main oven light. The Mini Kitchen is also supplied with a baking tray and grill rack with handle.

Brilliant idea for small spaces! I love the idea of a grill rack because I can’t really function a real grill, I know, sad. The mini kitchen is available online from England, not sure what type of outlet it needs, but maybe someone designs something similar in the U.S., I’m on the lookout!

I’ve always loved the heat of a wood stove but they seemed intrusive in a typical home, so when I found this design I was thrilled. The clean lines will fit in almost any interior and more importantly, no floor space is lost because it is suspended on the wall.

The stove works in 3 positions, open fire, glass enclosed fire and traditional stove manner with the metal doors closed. The 30-up Belgian Stove is designed by Stuv.

Going to the laundramat isn’t an option I want to undertake after moving into our tiny house, so we are researching efficient, compact washer and dryer systems. This combination bathroom sink and washer caught my eye.

The sink juts forward for leg room, a drawer for personal affects is located under the drawer for detergent and the size is perfect for a smaller than normal bathroom. The combination sink/washing machine would be perfect in climates where you can get away with hanging clothes outside. The Beko Entegre is designed by Korhan.
