Hi everyone! My name is Misty, and my family and I are on a mission to design a tiny house that we will eventually move into at some point. I’ve been fascinated by Tiny houses for about 8 years now ever since one of my best friends introduced me to “The Not So Big House” by Susanka, as well as “Creating The Not So Big House.” When the Tumbleweed company came onto the main scene a few years ago my dream for a small home changed to a tiny home, but there always seemed to be one main issue, WE HAVE FOUR KIDS. I love the designs that are so well thought out for 1 or 2 people, and the impact on the environment, cost savings, etc, but let’s face it, we just can’t fit 6 people in 200 sq ft. Our goal is 600-800 sq ft, but my main goal overall is to make a home that can actually function for a family and look fantastic.
Right now we actually have 2 homes because we commute between 2 states for business. Our main home is just under 2000 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, living, dining, kitchen and breakfast nook. We do not have a family room or basement, and frankly it feels cramped because of the design. Our other home is a carriage house over a 4 car garage, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, combination living/dining/kitchen with about 1000 sq ft and it feels much more spacious because of the design. I think the main thing we need to think about with our tiny house is function, every thing and every space needs to perform well and possibly double as something else when needed. Furniture and art are a big issue for me, so creating built-ins will be a challenge, the floor plan needs to be well laid out, and there needs to be wall space for art.
Interior design for a tiny house will be the focus of this blog because with such limited space, design needs to be well thought out to ensure there is a cohesive look that works with each function of the home while SAVING space. Appliances, lighting, stairs, and furniture can all make a statement without being large, so I’m looking forward to researching all the options and sharing them with you!
My mission is to build a tiny house that might be small on space, but BIG on design. Form, function, and artistic detail are important for every piece of furniture that goes into a tiny house, so I'm scouring for the best designs, and sharing with you!
